Chris was a homeless veteran who frequently visited Jefferson City Room at the Inn. Chris shared with a shelter volunteer that he was struggling with suicidal thoughts and that his mental health, caused in part by a lack of housing, was affecting his ability to stay employed.
Meanwhile, CMCA staff organized a housing assistance event for a specific housing voucher for veterans. Chris was so excited about the event, he was the first in line for the event. There, staff spent a few hours completing his application with him.
Chris walked out with a housing voucher, and just a few days later, got the keys to his own apartment. With secure housing, his mental health stabilized, and he has been able to get back to work, fix his truck, and reconnect with his daughter.

Providence Landing
CMCA is currently building Providence Landing, a 14-unit housing development in Columbia, Construction is expected to be completed by Spring 2026. The units will be sold to low-income residents, with the agency retaining land control. Homeowners who decide to later sell their homes will be required to sell to another low-income family, thereby ensuring that the housing remains affordable.

Stronghold Landing
Construction is underway on Stronghold Landing, a 40-unit housing complex in Jefferson City. Named in honor of Jefferson City’s strength following the 2019 tornado, this complex will serve as workforce housing and target low-to-moderate income residents.
