Shelly Spooner has been on a mission to take control of her life, and there has been no stronger support system for her or her three children than CMCA Head Start, particularly her family success coach, Celina.
Spooner’s three children, ages 1 through 8, have all attended Warsaw Head Start. In that time, Spooner navigated financial difficulties and relationship struggles that left her drained. It spiraled out of control, and the family lost housing, jobs, and custody of their children for a time.
Still, the Head Start community never stopped championing Shelly and supporting her as she worked to reach her goals.
“They are very supportive, and they don’t judge,” Shelly says. “No matter what the situation may be, they stay with you. They just want to help.”
With that support, Shelly’s life trajectory has completely changed this year. She began working full-time, secured housing, and regained full custody of her children. She purchased a new vehicle for reliable transportation, and in October, was approved for a home loan. She plans to purchase a home soon!
As their mom grows, the children are also flourishing. Her two older children are thriving in school, thanks to the foundations set at Head Start. Her youngest son has been enrolled in Head Start since he was six weeks old.
“He has learned so much through Head Start,” Shelly says. “They’ve helped bring him out of his shell. He took his first steps at Head Start and said his first words there. He’s ready to go in the morning and loves it there.”
