After divorce left her a single mom of three, Khyeese (Khy) found herself navigating financial uncertainty for the first time and learning how to manage a household on a limited income. Desiring to get control of her finances and move her family out of poverty, she enrolled in our Financial Opportunity Center® (FOC) program and our Step Up to Leadership class.
Working with her financial opportunity coach, she created a budget that highlighted areas where she could cut expenses. She began to see the importance of investing and saving for her future, with goals of being able to provide for her aging parents and sister with a disability.
Through Step Up to Leadership, she learned essential leadership qualities, skills, and connections, which inspired her to begin her own ministry, Khy’s Corner. She is now working with our Missouri Women’s Business Center to grow her ministry.
Our Impact on Families
Our Impact on Communities
At CMCA, relationships with community members and partner organizations are key to improving conditions for individuals, families, and communities. Community Organizers facilitate these relationships to guide CMCA’s contributions to community-led efforts related to housing, health, employment, childcare and other areas of focus.
We offer several types of community education including poverty simulations, REALL simulations for high school students, leadership classes, Building Strong Families classes, and Getting Ahead classes.
